Three forms of magnesium in one — didn't do much for me, yet

Why I Bought It
MagniMETICS caught my eye because it combines three forms of magnesium, including Magnesium L-Threonate, which is promoted as a form that can raise magnesium levels in the brain. Magnesium is involved in hundreds of processes throughout the body.
My Personal Experience
Personally, I didn't experience a dramatic benefit from this one — though that doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't work. My dose may have been relatively low, and I want to test magnesium products further. The challenge is finding the best type of magnesium at a sensible price.
What the Science Says
Magnesium is genuinely essential — it's involved in hundreds of enzyme reactions, including nerve signalling and sleep regulation. MagniMETICS, made in South Africa by AnaStellar Brands under its VitaMETICS range, combines Magnesium L-Threonate, Magnesium Citrate and Magnesium Glycinate; the label states three capsules provide 250 mg of elemental magnesium. L-Threonate was developed specifically because animal research suggested it raises magnesium levels in the brain more effectively than common forms like citrate or oxide. Citrate is a well-absorbed everyday form and glycinate is often chosen for calm and sleep. Human research on L-Threonate is much thinner: a small number of trials have looked at memory and cognition in older adults with modest results, and magnesium generally has better evidence for sleep quality and for correcting an actual deficiency than for boosting cognition in people who aren't deficient.
What We Don't Know
There is no meaningful research on MagniMETICS or Magnesium L-Threonate in ADHD, and the product as a whole hasn't been studied. Most of the brain-penetration argument rests on animal studies, and it's unclear how much of that translates to people. Dose also matters a great deal — many consumer products contain far less elemental magnesium than the amounts used in studies, which may explain why I noticed little.
Safety & Cautions
Magnesium is generally well tolerated, with loose stools and stomach upset being the most common side effects at higher doses. People with kidney problems should be careful, since the body clears excess magnesium through the kidneys, and magnesium can interfere with the absorption of some antibiotics and other medicines. Check with a doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you take regular medication.
My Honest Verdict
Worth researching further
Promising, but my personal experience so far hasn't been strong enough to make it one of my favourites. Still investigating.
